Professor Mahendhiran Nair is the Chief Executive Officer of Monash Malaysia R&D Company Sdn Bhd and Vice President (Research & Development) at Monash University Malaysia. He is a Fellow of CPA (Australia). He is also a Professor of Econometrics at Monash University Malaysia.

Prior to taking up his current position, he was the Deputy President (Strategy) and Head of School – School of Business at Monash University Malaysia. In his current role as Vice President (Research & Development), he is leading the development of multi-disciplinary research platforms that contribute to the strategic socioeconomic development of Malaysia and regional economies.

Professor Mahendhiran’s background is in econometrics and statistics. He has many years of experience researching and teaching in Canada and the Asia-Pacific region. He currently leads a research team that studies the impact of ICT and innovation ecosystems on socioeconomic development in emerging countries. He has published his research work in leading international journals and presented in high impact conferences & forums.

Professor Mahendhiran has been a subject matter expert on the knowledge economy and the development of innovation ecosystems for government agencies, public policy organisations and ‘think-tanks’ in Malaysia and the Middle East. He is a member of the Technical Committee for the Malaysian Indian Blueprint - Prime Minister’s Office. He was a member of the Secretariat for the Empowerment of Indian Entrepreneurs - Prime Minister’s Department. Professor Mahendhiran is an Advisor for the Program Titian Digital, a community based program that provide students from marginalised communities’ access to ICT literacy programs. He also provides regular commentaries on the state of the regional economies in local and international media.

His expertise and research interests are: Econometrics, Big Data Analytics, Statistical Pattern Recognition, Development Economics, Innovation Ecosystems and ICT Strategy & Policy.
